19 JULY 2010 MINUTES
Members and Visitors met at the Oglethorpe County Farm Bureau on Monday, 19 July 2010.

1) Call to Order:
The Business Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Agatha Coggins at 7:05 pm. Agatha welcomed our Visitors and the Speaker for the evening, Becky Collins.

2) Reading of the Minutes of the Preceding Business Meeting:
The minutes of the 21 June 2010 Business Meeting were distributed and read by Secretary Glenn Galau. They were approved without corrections.

3) Treasurer's Report:
Treasurer Louise 'Doc' Spears gave the Treasurer's Report through the beginning of the present meeting on 19 July 2010. The previous balance at the beginning of the meeting on 21 June 2010 was $ 246.45. There were six deposits for the month, totaling $ 150.00. There were two expenses totaling $ 43.34 This leaves a balance of $ 374.78. The Treasurer's Report was approved.

4) Officer and Committee Reports:
Communications Chairperson Carol Williamson reported that the application for a $ 250 grant from the Georgia Beekeepers Association Webmaster had been delivered to Keith Fielder, Middle District Director for the Association.

There was a workshop on 17 July 2010 at Wanda O'Callaghan's in which frames of capped honey was removed from several colonies and taken to Ray Haridgree's honey house in Bogart for extraction. About 6 gal of honey was collected.

The Club has had a continuous presence Saturday mornings at the Oglethorpe Fresh Farmer's Market since 12 June 2010 except for this past weekend. We have a small table and display educational material and sell honey. An informal discussion among the Club's Officers resulted in the decision to pay the organizer, Lynda Helmly, 10% of the gross sales as the fee for our Education Booth. Lynda is reportedly using our booth in her advertizing of the Market. Carol asked in we should do more.

8) Old Business: None

9) Unfinished Business: More information was available about our participation in Mule Day at the Callaway Plantation in Washington on 09 October 2010. The fee would be $ 25 (Non-profit) or $75 (Vendor). Non-profits cannot, however, sell product, so we would probably have to participate as a Vendor.

Carol is modifying the design of a Club Business Card, should we decide to purchase some.

10) New Business: None

11) Adjournment:
The Business Meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.

12) Program:
Betty Ward, Program Chairperson, introduced Becky Collins. Becky Collins lives in Eatonton, Georgia. She is the Coordinator for the Discovery Program and Animal Care Specialist at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in southern Oconne County. Becky became interested in bees while taking care of Rock Eagle's observation hive and has been an avid beekeeper since 2007.

Becky showed everyone how to make rolled beeswax candles. A triangular piece of wax sheet is rolled around a wick. It is really that 'simple'. The details are in where to get the colored wax foundation, the design of the candle and the shape of the wax sheet.

We were very pleased she joined the group for the evening.

13) Submitted by Glenn Galau, Secretary
